Bay Window Type 2 Westfalia

For sale is my fantastic VW Camper van, a 1971 Bay Window (LHD) in superb condition, which was imported from New Mexico, USA a couple of years ago. It’s in superb condition inside and out.

Work commitments have meant I don’t have time to make use of it and so I am reluctantly selling it. It is stored in my garage so is kept dry day & night and as it comes from a warm, dry US state, you’ll find the body in very good condition considering the age. The red & white exterior looks stunning and the interior has a rear bench seat that holds 3, a single & two front seats. The Westfalia roof increases the room of the sleeping quarters and by the rear fold-up table is an extra socket so a DVD player etc can be plugged in.

I bought it from a camper refurbish company in the USA who lovingly prepare them for enthusiasts. It has an MOT until January 2011 and runs really well. I had a professional retro workshop replace the gearstick to make it much easier to change gears and it has been fitted with an alarm too. The only minor points I’d mention are the heating hoses aren’t connected and as I never plan to use this in the winter I wasn’t concerned, but apparently it’s relatively easy to do. Also, all the door locks work but the driver door unlocks from the inside (in other words you get in through the passenger side). The engine looks and runs brilliantly and I had it serviced in 2009.

The camper van is a real beauty and I really wish I could use it more as it’s great fun, rides really well and always receives loads of looks & comments as it’s in such fantastic condition and the red and white exterior looks brilliant in sunshine. Unfortunately I just don’t have time to use it as I hoped to and I’d rather it went to a caring owner who can get the most from it.

While I’m sure there are lots of great vans about, this one is as good as I’ve ever seen. I’ve listed it at £12,000 which I think is a very realistic price and is much less than it cost me to buy, import and modify for use on UK roads.
